DVD COMPATIBILITY

!!! WARNING !!!

DVD manufactured in our studio does not have to play in your player, especally when it is not newer. Whoever says, that burned DVD will play for sure without testing, is probably a liar. There is only one 100% compatible kind of DVD, and this is a silver factory printed one.

Our studio produces these types of media:

  • DVD-R - result of DVD authoring or copy burned onto LG/Pioneer tower/burners (prices from 2500,- Kč/authoring, 50,- Kč/copy)

  • DVD+R - result of copying onto recorder Philips (prices from 200,- Kč/pc).

  • DVD+RW - same as DVD+R, but rewriteable media is used.

  • DVD+R/-R DL - two layers 8,5 GB media we use very rarely and for authored DVD only, because their compatibility is even worse than as of one layer media

When you bring in your DVD player, we can test it for sure on our test disc. Or try to find your player on www.videohelp.com list and see, if it plays nedded format. However even that is not for sure, sometimes DVD player refuse to play even media it was designed to play.

DVD DATA STRUCTURE

We produce DVD disc recorded in DVD Video format. This is exactly defined structure, when on standard data DVD there is VIDEO_TS directory, where files VOB, IFO and BUP are placed.

  • VOB - image data compressed to MPEG-2, interleaved with AC3 or PCM audio and subtitles.

  • IFO - disc structure information, jumps, languages etc.

  • BUP - backup of IFO files.

When you want play DVD on the computer, you must have not only DVD drive, but also DVD player, capable of playing DVD Video, i.e, to decode data and the structure. Just Media Player is not enough, it does not have MPEG-2 decoder ! Only some newest versions (V10) may play DVD properly.

In case you want not DVD Video structure, but one MPEG-2 file only (for example for editing), you must use software (f.e. SmartRipper ), which rips audio as AC3 and video as MPEG-2 separately from VOB files. You can re-mix both using multiplexer, try this one.

We can provide image saved onto data DVD as ordinary data (AVI, MPEG-1 or MPEG-2). This must be done in the editing suite, causing higher prices. Call for individual consultancy and price offer.

DVD QUALITY

Recording to single layer DVD+R/RW has these options:

  • HQ - high quality, indistinguishable from DV/D8 source, up to 60 minutes on one disc.

  • SP - standard quality, when you have direct comparison to source footage and good eyes, you "might" find a difference, up to 120 minutes on one disc.

  • SP+,EP,EP+ compromise quality, but longer recording times - up to 6hrs/disc.

  • If you are not sure, you may check out our testing DVD to choose your compression option.

Authoring has no discreet quality steps, can be optimalized. With more than two hours onto one single layer disc the quality must be compromised anyway.
